I'm OK with tube frames only if the production car also gets a tube frame. Bring back the homologation specials.

Agreed! Hey, they’re safer AND somewhat modular. Guaranteed not to be totaled by a minor fender bender like most modern cars. Few downsides here.

Massive pain in the butt to manufacture though. Unibodies are just flat sheets of metal, stamped into shapes, and spot welded together. Tube frames require you to cut the tubes to length, notch them at goofy angles so they fit together, bent to the required angles at the right locations, and held together on a jig while you weld all the way around every junction. There's a ton more manufacturing steps and I don't think you can automate it to nearly the level you can a modern unibody.
